Zehetbauer lodges tourists and helps so the Indians
“I realized a dream”, says Bernhard
Zehetbauer. Dr. Zehetbauer is from Munich (Germany), 43 years and a medical
doctor. With the help of german sponsors and the income of his jungle Hotel
he helps the Indians in Ecuador. Complete free. In the villages at the
Misahualli River the German has to shake a lot of hands. “We are so grateful
to god and to the German Doctor. We got hope for our daughter”, says Clara
Chimbo, 26 years old. Her 3 years old daughter has a heart defect.
Zehetbauer brought her after a first check to the capital Quito to a heart
surgeon. “The family can not even afford the long journey. This I pay too”,
says the 43 old Doctor. Zehetbauer is son of an active catholic family. His
father organized sponsorships for poor children. And his son helped already
with 19 years in a Missionary Hospital in India. Today the Amazon Region is
his homeland between Indians, macaws, caimans, palms and breadfruit trees.
The German shows proud his ecological Lodge “El Jardin Aleman”, that means
“German Garden”. Dr. Zehetbauer is neurologist, made his dissertation in
Virology at the Max-Von-Pettenkofer-Institut. Besides he studied also
Business Administration. 1992 he went the first time to Ecuador. His brother
Markus, a catholic priest, asked him for help. The Church of Munich helped
to build a Medical Centre in Quito. “I knew, this is the country, where I
can realize may dream to build an ecological Lodge and to give medical help
to poor people”. The Lodge is located in the Napo Province, two kilometres
out of the Misahualli Village. The German works without own practice. If the
village doctor asks for help, he does what he can. Sometimes there are
problems with the diagnosis. For example Fanny she has a lymphoma, what
Zehetbauer diagnosed. Also in this case he paid the transportation to Quito,
the Lodging in Quito and the Chemotherapy. A lot of his German friend didn’t
forget Bernhard Zehetbauer and help with donations. Money that children like
